Roundtable on Climate Resilient Water Resources Management in the Zarafshan River Basin
February 11, 2026 — The Third National Steering Committee (NSC) Meeting of the project “Climate Resilient Integrated Water Resources Management in the Zarafshan River Basin” was held at Green University, bringing together national authorities and international partners to assess progress and plan future actions.
The meeting was organized with the participation of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Caritas Switzerland, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), and partner organizations.
Opening the session, Dr. J. Kazbekov, Deputy Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, and Mr. Andrin Fink, Deputy Head of Mission and Head of Cooperation at the Swiss Embassy, highlighted the growing importance of climate-resilient water management and international cooperation in addressing climate-related challenges in Uzbekistan.
Participants reviewed the project’s annual progress, focusing on achievements in integrated water resources management, improved coordination among institutions, and strengthened local capacity to respond to climate change impacts in the Zarafshan River Basin.
The Committee also discussed the Yearly Plan of Operations for 2026–2027, providing recommendations to ensure alignment with national environmental priorities and long-term water sustainability goals.
The meeting concluded with agreement on preliminary proposals for the next NSC meeting and reaffirmed the partners’ shared commitment to strengthening climate resilience and sustainable water governance in Uzbekistan.
