Green University Hosts Seminar-Training and Discussion on CITES and Environmental Cooperation
On 12 March 2026, Central Asian University of Environmental and Climate Change Studies (Green University) hosted a seminar and focus group sessions. The event was aimed at strengthening the implementation of CITES in Central Asia, enhancing law enforcement, and improving the collection, analysis, and exchange of information on the illegal wildlife trade.
Representatives from the following organizations participated in the event:
• National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan
• State Customs Committee under the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan
• Border Troops of the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan
• Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan
• Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan
• National Central Bureau of INTERPOL Uzbekistan
• In addition, TRAFFIC and other international partners took part
The opening session featured a keynote address by Dr. Bakhtiyor Pulatov, Rector of Green University. In his speech, the Rector emphasized that today’s seminar-training represents an important step towards ensuring ecological sustainability, preserving biodiversity, and promoting the sustainable use of natural resources. He also highlighted the critical role of the CITES program as an international legal instrument for controlling the illegal trade in wild flora and fauna.
The Rector further underscored the seminar-training as a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, learning best practices, and enhancing the professional capacity of specialists. Green University remains committed to supporting scientific research in ecology, climate change, and sustainable development, training young specialists, and expanding international cooperation.
During the seminar, presentations on TRAFFIC, EU GUARD, and IUCN projects were delivered, focus group discussions were conducted, and practical recommendations for combating the illegal wildlife trade were developed. The event served as a key platform for strengthening environmental cooperation in Central Asia and effectively implementing CITES requirements.
