Debriefing Session Held on Learning Journey to Switzerland under the CR-IWRM in the Zarafshan River Basin Project
January 20, 2026 — The Central Asian University of Environmental and Climate Change Studies (Green University) hosted a debriefing session for participants of the Learning Journey to Switzerland conducted under the CR-IWRM in the Zarafshan River Basin (ZRB) Project. The event brought together project team members, representatives of the Embassy of Switzerland, and selected participants of the Learning Journey.
The session aimed to provide an opportunity for participants to share reflections and insights gained during the visit to Switzerland. Discussions focused on key lessons learned, their practical implications for the ZRB Project, and feedback on the organization and structure of the Learning Journey.
During the session participants reviewed Switzerland’s experience in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), basin-level governance and coordination, as well as water and environmental monitoring, data utilization, and decision-making processes. Reflections were also shared regarding the relevance and transferability of these practices to the Uzbek context.
The session further explored actionable next steps for the ZRB Project, including institutional strengthening of the Zarafshan River Basin Council, improvements in water and environmental monitoring systems, and enhanced cross-sectoral coordination among water, environment, agriculture, and energy sectors. Participants also provided valuable feedback on the content, format, site visits, and logistics of the Learning Journey, offering recommendations for future capacity-building and exchange initiatives.
The debriefing concluded with a summary of key discussion points and the identification of potential follow-up actions, reaffirming the commitment of project partners to advance sustainable water management practices in the Zarafshan River Basin.
This event served as an important platform for knowledge sharing, practical learning, and strengthening international cooperation in integrated water resources management between Uzbekistan and Switzerland.
