About Research Institute
The development of scientific and production activities in the field of hydrometeorology in Uzbekistan began in the 1870s. In 1867, the first regular meteorological observations were conducted in Tashkent, marking the beginning of systematic studies on the natural environment of the Turkestan region. On May 7, 1921, the Turkestan Meteorological Institute was established based on the physical division (magnetism and meteorology departments) of the Tashkent Observatory and the meteorology department of the hydrometric structure of the Turkestan region. Later, on November 10, 1957, by order of the Hydrometeorological Service Main Directorate under the Council of Ministers of the former Soviet Union, the Central Asian Scientific Research Hydrometeorology Institute was re-established on the basis of the Tashkent Scientific-Geophysical Observatory (TNIGO). More recently, according to Presidential Order No. PQ–171, issued on May 31, 2023, titled "Measures for the Effective Organization of the Activities of the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change," along with the decision of the same date regarding "Measures for Organizing the Activities of the Central Asia Environmental and Climate Change Research University (Green University)" (hereinafter referred to as the University), the status, key objectives, functions, and organizational structure of the Hydrometeorology Scientific Research Institute have been formally defined.
