Research Institute of Environmental Protection and Nature Conservation Technologies

About Research Institute

The Research Institute of Environmental Protection and Nature Conservation Technologies has a long history, originating in 1960 as a laboratory for water management research. Over the decades, it evolved through various restructurings under the Soviet and Uzbek governments, contributing significantly to environmental protection, water resource management, and sustainable development. The institute has participated in numerous international projects, secured patents, and received prestigious awards for its research. In 2023, it was integrated into the Central Asian University of Environmental and Climate Change Studies – Green University under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The Research Institute established a Scientific Council for awarding academic degrees in 2022, with seven researchers having obtained their PhD diplomas to date. Institute staff regularly participate in international internships and seminars while implementing initiatives to expand its scientific base and establish modern laboratories. In 2024, advanced technologies for monitoring water, soil, and air quality were introduced. Research is being conducted on climate change, dust storms, and erosion control, with partnerships established with international organizations such as UNEP, the World Bank, JICA, and IUCN. The institute is also implementing projects under the 2024 scientific-technical program of the Innovation Development Agency, focusing on the Aral Sea region’s ecology, artificial intelligence, and bioengineering technologies.
