Green University – the Central Asian University for Environmental and Climate Change Studies – successfully concluded its participation in the International Aral Tourism Week, held in the Republic of Karakalpakstan from April 17 to 19. The event brought together national and international stakeholders to promote sustainable tourism, cultural preservation, and ecological restoration in the Aral Sea region.
As part of the official program, the Green University delegation visited prominent cultural and historical landmarks, including the I.V. Savitsky Museum, the State Museum of History and Culture, and ancient sites in Khodjeyli, gaining valuable insights into the region’s heritage and resilience.
A central highlight of the university’s involvement was its participation in the International Conference “Ambassadors of Goodwill for the Aral Sea Region.” During the conference, Dr. J. Salikhov, Rector of Green University, along with several faculty members, delivered speeches. They presented the institution’s current research, educational programs, and regional partnerships focused on climate change adaptation, water resource management, and ecological sustainability in the Aral Sea basin.
The university’s representatives emphasised the critical role of youth engagement, international collaboration, and scientific exchange in building a sustainable future for the region. The conference served as a platform for sharing academic perspectives, proposing policy recommendations, and strengthening collaboration with organisations involved in the restoration of the Aral Sea.
In addition to academic engagement, the Green University delegation actively participated in several public and cultural events organised throughout the week, including:
-
A tree-planting campaign to support local greening initiatives.
-
The “10,000 Steps for the Aral Sea” awareness walk;
-
A badminton tournament promoting healthy lifestyles and community interaction.
-
A vibrant, open-air concert celebrating regional art and culture;
-
And the “99 Dishes from Aral Fish” gastronomic festival, which highlighted traditional cuisine and promoted sustainable fishing practices.
Green University expressed its pride in contributing to this impactful week of activities and dialogue. Its participation reflects a continued commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainable development, and regional cooperation. The university also extended its appreciation to the event organisers and participating institutions for making the International Aral Tourism Week a memorable and meaningful occasion.
